It’s National Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month

During the weeks of September 15 – October 15 the nation celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month. As we roll into this last week of observance, we want to take a moment to celebrate here at AMP too!

This national event was first established in 1968 to honor and celebrate the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans. During this month the national parks department and other organizations coordinate to host opportunities where we can celebrate all heritage rooted in all Latin American countries. In addition to celebrating the heritage that adds to the makeup of our country, we also honor the individuals behind our country’s history and their stories as well. From the entertainment industry’s Reno Moreno, Gloria Estefan, Lin Manuel-Miranda, and Selena Quintanilla to activists like Dolores Huerta, Cesar Chavez, and Sylvia Rivera. Not to mention astronauts and authors in Ellen Ochoa and Julia Alvarez.

The few people mentioned here and so many other amazing Hispanic Americans are worth celebrating this month. To learn more about this observance and historical figures associated, visit the links below for more info.
