Responsibilities

  • Perform general support functions within the specimen processing department, including presorting, pickup, and delivery of specimens to the laboratory.
  • Assist with imaging and microfilming of specimens, as well as centrifugation and aliquoting tasks.
  • Accurately enter data, handling up to 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour, ensuring all specimens are documented correctly.
  • Understand and adhere to compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change regularly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, following safety protocols in a biohazard environment.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff levels and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Participate in shift work, with a primary focus on night shifts, and be flexible to accommodate weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime as needed.

  • Ability to perform detailed data entry with a high level of accuracy and speed.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to learn specimen types and testing procedures.
  • Effective communication skills in both spoken and written English.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production environment while maintaining quality standards.
  • Comfortability working in a biohazard setting while practicing appropriate safety habits.

Additional Skills & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; previous laboratory or medical terminology experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations; laboratory testing or specimen processing experience is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are essential.
  • Availability to work scheduled shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with punctuality and full shift coverage.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish are strongly preferred, but excellent English communication skills are mandatory.
