Responsibilities
- Prepare patient specimens in accordance with hospital and laboratory procedures, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Follow pre-analytical processing protocols for specimen handling, sample preparation, and test ordering policies.
- Utilize hospital Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Quest laboratory systems to track, accession, and manage specimen flow and data.
- Print and interpret testing reports for laboratory assays.
- Manage supply ordering processes to maintain adequate inventory levels.
- Perform remote accessioning and troubleshoot specimen-related issues, including missing information or additional sample requests.
- Communicate effectively with hospital laboratory staff, Quest organization, and other clinical team members to resolve specimen or testing issues.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills in liaising between hospital staff and the laboratory.
Required Skills
- Strong familiarity with specimen processing, test ordering, and hospital laboratory procedures.
- Knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) and experience with data entry.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills for customer interactions and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work efficiently in a production environment, handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to interpret specimen tracking data and reports accurately.
Additional Skills & Requirements
- 1–3 years of work experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred, with a medical background or familiarity with medical terminology advantageous.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience with hospital laboratory information systems or Quest diagnostic systems is a plus.
- Physical ability to sit or stand for extended periods and work in a biohazard environment while practicing safety habits.
- Detail-oriented, punctual, with excellent organizational skills.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Position may require proficiency with data entry of up to 6,000 keystrokes per hour.
