Tech – Medical Lab Technologist

Overview

Responsibilities

  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, and reporting, while maintaining accurate records of all patient test results.
  • Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested consistently with patient specimens and analyze specimens using approved testing procedures per department SOPs.
  • Review and accurately release test results, following CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
  • Adhere to quality control policies, document calibration, maintenance activities, and all quality assurance measures, including troubleshooting and corrective actions when performance deviations occur.
  • Report STAT or critical results promptly to clients according to established protocols.
  • Maintain complete records of testing performed, ensure proper storage and labeling of reagents and test kits with received, opened, and expiration dates.
  • Participate in training, review new procedures, and attend departmental meetings and safety training sessions.
  • Assist in regulatory inspections and perform other duties as directed by the supervisor, including contributing to the overall organization and cleanliness of the laboratory environment.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments and, when applicable, interact with clients, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

Required Skills

  • Solid understanding of basic and high-complexity laboratory testing procedures.
  • Proficiency with computers and laboratory information systems.
  • Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance practices across laboratory disciplines.
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve testing problems.

Additional Skills & Requirements

  • BS in Medical Technology, or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or Associates degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; foreign educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF, U.S. educated candidates must provide original transcripts.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from a recognized organization such as ASCP or AMT is preferred or must be eligible to obtain certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience performing high-complexity testing preferred.
  • Possess or be eligible for applicable state and national licensure.
  • Strong organizational skills to establish work priorities and handle multiple procedures simultaneously.
  • Good communication skills for interaction with other departments and clients; maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Schedule flexibility may be required to meet lab operational needs.
