Responsibilities:
- Draw high-quality blood specimens from patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations, following established protocols.
- Prepare specimens accurately for lab testing, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
- Create a welcoming, professional environment by communicating procedures clearly and empathetically to patients, fostering trust and confidence.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity.
- Clean and organize work area to uphold safety and infection control standards.
- Maintain accurate records of all procedures and specimen details in compliance with hospital and laboratory policies.
- Perform routine clerical tasks such as data entry, ensuring all patient and specimen information is correctly documented.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and patient satisfaction.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines, procedures, and infection control protocols to ensure a secure environment.
Required Skills:
- Proven experience in venipuncture and capillary blood collection, including skills with pediatric and geriatric patients.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain procedures clearly to diverse patient populations.
- Basic computer proficiency, including data entry and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining teamwork.
- Valid phlebotomy certification (required in certain states such as California, Nevada, and Washington) or willing to obtain certification.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; medical assistant or paramedic training is a plus.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Customer service experience, particularly in retail or service environments, is advantageous.
- Additional clinical skills such as EKG, specimen processing, or lab procedures.
- Previous experience working with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 6 months of direct phlebotomy experience is required; over a year of experience is preferred.
