Responsibilities:
- Draw high-quality blood specimens from patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations, following established protocols and safety procedures.
- Prepare specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring proper labeling, handling, and documentation to guarantee accuracy and traceability.
- Verify patient demographic information and obtain patient signatures post-venipuncture to confirm specimen labels are correctly assigned.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional environment for patients and staff at all times.
- Provide clear explanations to patients about procedures to foster trust and ease nervousness.
- Accurately document and record all collection data in compliance with company policies and healthcare regulations.
- Adjust work schedule as needed, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts, to support multiple locations and patient care needs.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure high standards of process excellence and customer service are maintained.
Required Skills:
- Minimum of three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric and geriatric collections, with a demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture and capillary collections proficiently.
- Strong understanding of blood collection procedures, safety protocols, and specimen handling.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain procedures clearly and empathetically.
- Ability to efficiently manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment.
- Proficiency with keyboard/data entry and documentation systems.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record if travel between locations is required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while following established procedures.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call schedules.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Phlebotomy certification (preferred but not mandatory).
- Medical assistant or paramedic training.
- Experience in a patient service center or clinical setting.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Three or more years of professional phlebotomy experience, especially in diverse patient populations.
- Previous work in a busy clinical, hospital, or outpatient setting preferred.
