Lab – Phlebotomist

Overview

Join a dedicated clinical team as a phlebotomist specializing in blood collection and specimen preparation. Responsibilities

– Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and minimal discomfort.
– Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to established procedures to maintain sample integrity.
– Properly explain procedures to patients in a clear, courteous manner, addressing questions and alleviating concerns.
– Collect and store specimens, including urine and fecal samples, following protocol.
– Match laboratory requisition forms to specimens, verify test orders, and ensure accurate labeling.
– Package specimens carefully for transport, adhering to temperature requirements and safety protocols.
– Record maintenance data, perform decontamination, update patient information, and maintain specimen storage.
– Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, wear appropriate PPE, and participate in annual training.
– Attend to inquiries by reading laboratory results and answering calls as needed.
– Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory operations.

Required Skills

– Proven experience performing blood draws and specimen collection.
– Ability to label, centrifuge, and handle specimens accurately.
– Excellent communication skills to explain procedures clearly and courteously.
– Knowledge of laboratory protocols and safety regulations related to specimen handling.
– Familiarity with recording maintenance data and specimen storage procedures.

Additional Skills & Requirements

– Bilingual Spanish speaking skills preferred to effectively communicate with diverse patients.
– Current certification or licensure as a phlebotomist or medical assistant.
– Prior experience in a clinical laboratory or healthcare setting.
– Ability to work Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8am – 5pm; Wednesday from 8am – 7pm as needed; and every other Saturday from 8am – 5pm.
– Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required for territory coverage in Manhattan, Queens, Far Rockaway, Arverne, and Astoria.
– High school diploma or equivalent required; formal phlebotomy training strongly preferred.
