Overview

Responsibilities
– Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety
– Label specimens accurately, and process them through centrifugation, splitting, and freezing as per test requirements
– Collect specimens, including urine and fecal samples, following established protocols
– Explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients, putting them at ease during specimen collection
– Maintain laboratory records, update patient information, and ensure specimens are stored according to required temperature standards
– Prepare and package specimens properly for transport, adhering to all safety and regulatory standards
– Verify test requisitions and labels to ensure 100% accuracy between specimen samples and orders
– Follow OSHA and DEP regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE and maintaining a clean, safe work environment
– Attend annual training sessions and assist with general laboratory and clerical duties as needed
– Respond to inquiries, read and interpret laboratory results, and perform other duties to support laboratory operations
Required Skills
– Proven experience in blood draws and specimen collection
– Ability to confidently explain venipuncture procedures to patients
– Knowledge of labeling, centrifuging, and specimen storage techniques
– Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in specimen handling and documentation
– Familiarity with laboratory safety standards and OSHA regulations
– Good communication skills to interact effectively with patients and team members
Additional Skills & Requirements
– Pediatric specimen collection experience strongly preferred
– Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred
– Must have valid certification or licensure in phlebotomy (if applicable)
– Prior experience working in a clinical or hospital setting is ideal
– Schedule includes Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm, with every other Saturday 8am-12pm
– Ability to demonstrate excellent technical skills and patient care in a fast-paced environment
