Lab – Phlebotomist

Position: Phlebotomist
Location: Newburgh, NY 12550
Schedule: Monday-Friday 11:30am-8pm Every Other Saturday 9am-5pm 
Pay Rate: $20.00 – $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and specimen integrity
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze laboratory specimens according to established procedures
  • Accurately match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify all test requisitions against patient scripts
  • Explain the venipuncture or specimen collection process clearly and courteously to patients of diverse backgrounds, including pediatric patients
  • Properly package specimens for transport and store samples at correct temperatures to maintain specimen integrity
  • Record maintenance data, decontaminate equipment, and update patient information as required
  • Assist with specimen processing, including centrifuging and specimen storage
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations by wearing appropriate PPE and following safety protocols
  • Attend annual department training sessions and stay current with laboratory procedures
  • Answer phone inquiries and communicate laboratory results as needed
  • Perform other duties related to phlebotomy and specimen collection as assigned

Required Skills

  • Experience performing blood draws and specimen collection
  • Knowledge of specimen labeling, centrifuging, and proper storage techniques
  • Ability to explain procedures clearly and compassionately to patients
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in labeling and documentation
  • Understanding of laboratory safety and OSHA/DEP compliance standards

Additional Skills & Requirements

  • Must be bilingual in Spanish to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations
  • Experience with pediatric specimen collection is required
  • High school diploma or equivalent; phlebotomy certification preferred
  • Previous work in a clinical laboratory or healthcare setting is preferred
  • Schedule includes Monday through Friday from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm, every other Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
