As a Lab – Phlebotomist, you will be instrumental in collecting blood and urine samples for lab analysis within a well-established medical setting. Responsibilities:
- Efficiently facilitate the collection, processing, and shipment of blood and urine specimens, ensuring compliance with all departmental protocols.
- Perform venipuncture to obtain blood specimens with precision and care.
- Observation and collection of urine specimens through observed or supervised methods, maintaining strict adherence to collection procedures.
- Properly identify patients to prevent specimen errors, following universal identification protocols.
- Accurately label and document all specimens, preparing them for shipment to the laboratory.
- Demonstrate compassion and excellent customer service when interacting with diverse patient populations, physicians, and clinic staff.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and ensure all safety and OSHA standards are met when handling specimens.
- Adhere strictly to HIPAA guidelines to protect patient confidentiality.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and communicate any issues or unusual situations to supervisors promptly.
- Assist with office and inventory management as needed, including supply ordering and equipment upkeep.
Required Skills:
- Minimum of 6 months of venipuncture experience, demonstrating proficiency in blood collection techniques.
- Strong customer service skills, with a verifiable track record of compassionate patient interactions.
- Highly reliable with a solid work ethic and punctuality.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and confidently.
- Strong computer skills, including experience managing multiple programs, email correspondence, and data entry with accuracy and speed.
- Attention to detail in specimen labeling and documentation to ensure laboratory integrity.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience with urine drug screen collections and observation procedures.
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent national certification.
- Knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) or electronic medical record (EMR) platforms.
- Familiarity with OSHA standards and universal precautions.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior experience in a clinical laboratory, healthcare setting, or similar environment preferred.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant or related healthcare credential is a plus but not mandatory.
Other Requirements:
- Schedule: Part-time, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (25 hours per week).
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform physically active tasks such as bending, reaching, and kneeling.
- Valid certification in phlebotomy or equivalent preferred.
- Must adhere to dress code of solid color scrubs and closed-toe shoes.
- Reliable transportation to the worksite located at a well-established clinical setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse patient and team population.
