Lab – Phlebotomist

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws using straight and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety
  • Properly label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test requirements
  • Explain the specimen collection process to patients courteously, reducing anxiety
  • Greet patients and customers professionally, providing a courteous and calming environment
  • Accurately match laboratory requisition forms to specimens and ensure proper labeling
  • Package and transport specimens securely, storing samples at appropriate temperatures
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and record maintenance data, decontaminate work areas
  • Follow OSHA and DEP regulations to ensure safety and compliance
  • Attend annual training sessions and contribute to a collaborative team environment
  • Assist with answering phone inquiries and reading laboratory results as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of the role

Required Skills

  • Experience performing venipunctures in a clinical or hospital setting, minimum of 6 months preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Reliable transportation with at least 4 years of licensed driving experience
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently

Additional Skills & Requirements

  • Excellent patient interaction skills, both in person and via phone
  • Willingness to travel throughout the assigned territory, approximately 100% of the time
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 20 pounds
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings as needed
