Lab – Phlebotomist

Responsibilities

  • Draw blood specimens from patients accurately and safely, including pediatric and geriatric populations.
  • Prepare and label specimens following established procedures to ensure proper testing and processing.
  • Verify patient demographic information and obtain patient signatures post-venipuncture to ensure correct labeling.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of collection activities.
  • Provide excellent customer service and create a trustworthy environment for patients during specimen collection.
  • Ensure the safety and professionalism of the work environment at all times.
  • Perform specimen processing tasks as needed, following all safety and procedural guidelines.
  • Assist with floating between multiple locations, including patient service centers and in-office phlebotomy sites, as required.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures related to health, safety, and confidentiality.
  • Respond flexibly to staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to collect blood samples with a focus on accuracy and patient comfort.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in specimen labeling and documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with patients and team members effectively.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Basic keyboard and data entry skills.

Additional Skills & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
  • 1-3 years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections, required.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record are required, if applicable.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and multiple locations, including on-call shifts.
  • Experience working in a Patient Service Center environment is highly preferred.
