Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring minimal discomfort for patients across a wide demographic
- Label specimens accurately and ensure proper storage and transport according to protocol
- Collect and store specimens such as blood, urine, or fecal samples following established procedures
- Explain the specimen collection process clearly and courteously to patients
- Operate centrifuges, decontaminate equipment, and record maintenance data as required
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, verify accuracy, and package samples for transport
- Store specimens at correct temperatures and follow protocols to maintain sample integrity
- Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations, wearing appropriate PPE and attending annual training sessions
- Read laboratory results, answer inquiries, and perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory operations
Required Skills
- Experience performing blood draws and specimen collection
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures such as labeling, centrifuging, and specimen handling
- Ability to accurately match requisitions to specimens and ensure proper documentation
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain procedures courteously
Additional Skills & Requirements
- Bilingual in Spanish is required
- Preferred pediatric experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; phlebotomy certification preferred
- Availability to work Monday through Friday from 8 am to 1 pm, with Saturday shifts from 9 am to 2 pm
- Physically capable of performing blood draws and specimen handling
