Position: Phlebotomist
Location: Brooklyn, NY 11201-2903
Schedule: 

  • Monday 8am-5:30pm  
  • Tuesday 8am-5:30pm
  • Wednesday 9am-5:30pm
  • Thursday 9am-5:30pm
  • Friday 10am-5:30pm

Pay Rate: $20.00 – $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety
  • Label specimens accurately and prepare them for processing, including centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required
  • Explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients, addressing questions and minimizing discomfort
  • Collect and store specimens in accordance with established protocols, maintaining specimen integrity
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimens, verify test orders, and ensure accurate labeling
  • Package specimens appropriately for transport to ensure proper handling and sample preservation
  • Store specimens at correct temperatures following protocol requirements
  • Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations, utilizing all necessary PPE and safety procedures
  • Update patient information and maintain accurate records of specimen collection and processing
  • Attend training sessions and keep current with department policies and procedures
  • Answer calls and communicate lab results as needed to healthcare providers or patients
  • Complete other duties as assigned to support laboratory operations

Required Skills

  • Experience performing blood draws and specimen collection
  • Ability to explain procedures clearly and courteously to diverse patient populations
  • Strong attention to detail with accurate specimen labeling and documentation
  • Understanding of laboratory procedures including centrifuging and specimen handling
  • Good communication skills and customer service orientation

Additional Skills & Requirements

  • Previous phlebotomy certification or training is preferred
  • Must be able to work Monday through Friday, with scheduled shifts including early mornings and late mornings
  • Must complete a pre-employment lab screening
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience in a clinical laboratory or healthcare environment is preferred
  • Strong adherence to safety protocols, OSHA, and environmental regulations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse environment with professionalism and empathy
