Responsibilities
- Collect blood samples from patients in various clinical settings, ensuring accuracy, safety, and comfort.
- Prepare specimens for laboratory testing according to established procedures and best practices.
- Provide coverage at multiple locations, including patient service centers, mobile units, long-term care facilities, and in-office environments.
- Explain procedures to patients to create a trusting atmosphere and alleviate concerns during blood draws.
- Demonstrate leadership behaviors by supervising and mentoring new staff and collaborating with team members.
- Act as a resource for staff, providing onboarding support and effective communication on site operations.
- Handle high-volume and complex test orders, requiring excellent customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Coordinate with multiple functions such as sales, laboratory testing, billing, and logistics to ensure smooth operations.
- Manage multiple priorities efficiently in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in phlebotomy, with at least five years of blood collection experience including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Ability to work in diverse settings, including patient service centers and long-term care environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish trust with patients and team members.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in keyboard and data entry tasks.
- Capable of handling multiple high-priority tasks efficiently.
Additional Skills & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical training such as medical assistant or paramedic preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
- Minimum of five years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric and geriatrics.
- Preferred experience in a patient service center or outpatient environment for at least three years.
- Experience in customer service within retail or service industries is advantageous.
