Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws using straight or butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens in accordance with established procedures
- Collect and store specimens such as urine and fecal samples as required
- Explain specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients
- Match requisition forms with specimen tubes and verify test orders for accuracy
- Package specimens properly for transport while maintaining sample integrity
- Store and handle samples according to temperature and protocol specifications
- Maintain accurate records, update patient information, and perform specimen decontamination and maintenance tasks
- Comply with OSHA and DEP safety and regulatory standards, including wearing PPE
- Attend annual departmental training sessions and assist with related duties as assigned
- Answer telephone inquiries and communicate lab results effectively when needed
Required Skills
- Experience performing blood draws and specimen collection
- Knowledge of labeling, centrifuging, and preparing specimens for testing
- Ability to properly explain procedures to patients and handle specimens with care
- Strong attention to detail to ensure specimen and test requisition accuracy
- Understanding of laboratory safety standards and protocols
Additional Skills & Requirements
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous phlebotomy experience preferred but not required; training available for qualified candidates
- Flexibility to work Monday through Friday from 9am to 5:30pm, with every other Saturday from 9am to 1pm
- Punctuality and reliability in a clinical environment
