Responsibilities:

  • Draw blood samples from patients of varied age groups, including pediatric and geriatric populations, adhering to established protocols and safety standards.
  • Prepare specimens for laboratory testing, labeling, and documentation following strict procedural guidelines to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • Verify patient demographic information and specimen labeling post-venipuncture, ensuring tubes are labeled in the patient’s presence and with correct identifiers.
  • Communicate clearly with patients to explain procedures, ease anxieties, and foster a trusting environment.
  • Maintain detailed records of collections, patient interactions, and specimen processing, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior and uphold a positive image within the clinical setting, contributing to a safe and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Adapt to different work environments, including patient service centers, outpatient clinics, or in-office settings, as needed.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
  • Strong proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and team members.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in specimen labeling and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Familiarity with electronic data entry and laboratory information systems.
  • Valid certification in phlebotomy preferred; however, certification is required in certain states.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record are necessary if travel between multiple locations is required.
